Fees, Refunds, and Rescheduling
- Call the school or check the website for the current pricing of the WA State Knowledge Test and Skills Test. Any Card payments have a 3% processing fee. Test fees are for testing only, separate from any fees charged for your Traffic Safety Course and the DOL’s application and licensing fees.
- All refunds are subject to an office and processing fee of $25. For a refund, scheduled appointments must be canceled ten business days before the service date. 75% of refunds will be granted only if requested at least 3 business days before the scheduled appointment.
- Forty-eight hours is required to reschedule. No refund for no-shows or any cancelations within 72 hours.
- The owner has the final say in any grievance/complaint issues. Any grievances about a driving test must be submitted in writing with a carbon copy of the test. Email: publicdrivingschoolkent.com or Mail this to: We reserve the right to refuse services to anyone.
- The DOL Knowledge test consists of 40 multiple-choice questions about road signs, traffic laws, and safe driving practices before you drive on the roadways. Applicants must answer at least 32 questions correctly to pass the test.
- The driving test will test the applicant’s ability to drive legally and safely. Applicants must pass the driving skill test with a score of at least 80%.
- Your drive test scores will be entered into the DOL database within 24 hours. You will have to visit the DOL office to apply for your license. Passing the knowledge and the driving test does not guarantee that an applicant will be issued a driver’s license. The Department of Licensing will determine if an applicant has met all licensing requirements.
- If you are under the age of 18, you must be at least 16 years old, have successfully completed a traffic safety education course, have had your permit for at least six months, and have had 50 hours of driving experience, including 10 hours at night, which you gained while a licensed driver with at least five years of licensed driving experience supervised you before scheduling a driving skill Test.
- The Department of Licensing reserves the right to conduct random re-examinations: applicants refusing to take a re-examination may have their license revoked.
- If an applicant has a physical disability, even temporarily, the DOL must conduct the skill test.
- If you received a letter from DOL to take an examination or have physical, mental, visual, or any medical issue, you must test at a DOL office. Failure to disclose this information prior to testing will result in your test not being honored at DOL to obtain your license, and we will not refund the test fee.
- Applicant cannot use a rental car to take the driving test.
- Arrive 15 minutes early for your driving Test. Arriving ten or more minutes late will be considered a no-show.
- You will need to demonstrate arm signals before beginning the skills test.
- We offer the knowledge test in English, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, Vietnamese, and Korean.
- Provide proof of identification such as a photo permit, out-of-state license, or school yearbook.
- The following requirements must be met if applicants elect to use their own vehicles for the driving test:
- All brakes and brake lights must work. B. All turn signals must work. C. Seat belts must function and be used. D. License plates must be on the front and back of the vehicle with current tabs on the rear plate. E. Windshield must not be cracked or chipped in the line of vision. F. Windshield wipers must function, and the defroster system must work properly to defog the windows. G. Tires must meet state requirements for tire tread (no bald tires). H. Present acceptable proof of Liability Insurance showing the policy holder’s name or the vehicle description and the date of insurance coverage (examiner may verify insurance with carrier). I. Current registration (current tabs) at the time of the test must be provided.
- No one is allowed to ride during the driving test; only the applicant and examiner, a service animal, and an interpreter for the deaf or hard of hearing are allowed in the vehicle.
- Applicant must listen to the examiner’s instruction the whole time during the skill test. If instruction is not understood by the applicant, the examiner may clarify instruction at any driving maneuver. Remember, the Examiner is not an instructor when testing.
- Pursuant to RCW 46.20.720, a driver convicted of an alcohol offense may be required to have an Ignition Interlock Device (IID) to drive. The applicant must take the skills exam in their vehicle using the IID.
- Applicants must arrive 15 minutes early. If you are late for more than 10 minutes, we may not be able to test. you
- Applicants may provide their own vehicles or use our vehicle to use for the driving test. Our car is a compact-sized sedan with automatic transmission. If using our car, applicants are encouraged to schedule a practice session before the test to become comfortable with the vehicle’s operation.
- Public Driving School reserves the right to update or modify these terms and conditions at any time without prior notice. If any changes are made, the revised terms and conditions will be available to applicants before taking the tests.
- As a contractor for the Washington State Department of Licensing (DOL), we comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and executive orders regarding non-discrimination.
